Smart Redirects:
Smart Redirects automatically creates 301 redirects for broken internal singular pages — sending visitors and search engines from a deleted or broken post URL to that post type’s archive page.

Introduction to Smart Redirects:
When you delete a post or page, or when a URL becomes broken for any reason, visitors who try to access the old URL see a 404 error page. This creates a poor user experience and wastes any SEO value that old URL had. Manually creating redirects for every deleted post is tedious, time-consuming, and easy to forget.

Smart Redirects solves this problem by automating the entire process. When a singular URL (like a blog post or product page) becomes inaccessible, Smart Redirects automatically sends visitors to the archive page where similar content lives.

Why It Matters:
Every time a visitor hits a 404 error instead of finding relevant content, you risk losing that visitor forever. Search engines also view frequent 404 errors as a sign of poor site maintenance. Smart Redirects ensures that:

  • Visitors always land somewhere useful, not a dead end
  • Link equity (PageRank) is preserved through 301 redirects
  • You never forget to create redirects for deleted content
  • Your site maintains a professional, well-maintained appearance

What You Can Do with Smart Redirects:

  • Enable Smart Redirects per post type
  • View all generated redirect records
  • Toggle individual redirects on/off
  • Delete records with linked redirects
  • Reset all records at once
  • Reset records by selected post type
  • Manage all redirects in the Redirection Manager

Requirements:

  • SEO Repair Kit plugin installed and activated
  • Post type must have an archive page enabled
  • Smart Redirects enabled per post type in settings

Note: Post types without archive pages cannot be enabled for archive redirects. For example, if your theme does not have a page archive, Smart Redirects cannot redirect deleted pages.
